The fact that you can not scream, and even more so to beat the children, it is now clear to most parents. Moreover, the prohibition established in law 53 countries, among which, fortunately, and Ukraine. In this debate about whether it is possible to punish spank a child by the pope, it does not stop. It's sort of like not child abuse, and disciplinary action. Health damage such punishment does not, according to his supporters, and if to slap the kid without the anger and the cause, it can be very safe and effective means of education. Their opponents are convinced that it harms children and violates their right to protection.

To stop this endless debate, scientists at the University of Missouri conducted fundamental research on the subject. Its findings are shared in a report published in the authoritative edition of The Conversation.

The results of the study states that the slap on the pope can lead to bad consequences for the health and development of children. Including psychological problems, suicide, drug use, physical development problems and behavioral disorders.

For example, if a child is beaten by the pope at the age of 15 months, he eventually showed the difficult nature of the school and adolescence.

"With every beat children feel not only physical but also emotional pain. For them it is a sign that the parents do not love them. Children's flip flops - a message that they are not good. And this leads to aggressive behavior in the future, "- says an expert on parenting Carol Lieberman.

Scientists argue that physical punishment also affect the brains of children, their mental abilities. And this happens as early as when the child is punished by a hand or a belt at least once a month for 3 years. For example, scientists have found that children who are spanked regularly had less gray matter in certain areas the prefrontal cortex, which are responsible for depression, substance abuse, and some mental disorder. They also identified a "significant correlation" between the amount of gray matter in these areas of the brain and the results of IQ tests.

The researchers also point out that the studies showing that children spanked useful, does not exist, and that violence leads to harmful consequences enough. For example, they refer to the meta-analysis conducted in 2002 by a group of scientists led by Dr. Elizabeth Gershof. They cover the results of 88 studies on the topic of beating children in 62 year.

The second document, which covers 75 studies conducted over the past 13 years, was published in 2016. The analysis shows that there is no reason to think that spanking somehow improve the behavior of children. But the evidence that children who are beaten by the pope are more prone to aggression, antisocial behavior, psychological problems, difficulties in relationships with parents in adulthood, more than enough.
