Thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH abbreviated) is indispensable for the functioning of the endocrine system.

TSH is produced in the pituitary gland and affects the synthesis of thyroid several hormonesIncluding thyroxine, T3 and T4. They are dependent on each other - the smaller the thyroid stimulating hormone in the blood, the more T3 and T4 (and vice versa).

As during pregnancy, a woman's hormonal balance becomes unstable, doctors are advised to monitor the levels of TSH and periodically do tests.

But let's first determine what concentration of this hormone is the norm for women in the position of:

  • 14-25 years - 0,6-4,5,
  • 25-50 years - 0.4 - 4.0.
In the first trimester of pregnancy TSH may be slightly reduced, due to the fact that the fetus does not produce its own hormones. By the end of the first trimester the baby develops its own thyroid gland:
  • 1 trimester - 0.2-0.4,
  • 2 trimester - 0.3-3.0,
  • 3 trimester - 0.3-4.0.

Hormones are important for children's development, particularly the brain. Therefore TTG shortage may cause damage to fetal brain.
