Researchers have once again proven that breast milk is invaluable to a child's health. This product contains sugar, which protects children from deadly meningitis, sepsis and pneumonia.
sugar contained in breast milk saves infants health, providing reliable protection from deadly bacteria, scientists have established.
This component is the prevention (GBS) B streptococcal infections, the most common and the most life-threatening neonatal bacterial infection that causes meningitis, sepsis, pneumonia. Only in the UK from GBS die every week for one child, but many others remain irreversible damage to health.
It is known that many pregnant naturally carry this bacterium, which is why the number of infections among children is increasing. But until now, scientists did not understand why some infants are experiencing these illnesses, while others remain healthy. Researchers from Imperial College London observed the 183 women in the Gambia and their kids.
Maternal DNA was checked for the presence of a gene associated with blood groups, which play an important role in determining the type of the sugar contained in breast milk. In addition, women also tested for the presence of GBS. It turned out that having this gene had fewer women in their GBS intestine, and their children are also less likely infected after birth.
But even if these kids are all faced of GBS, they are much easier to cope with it, as the mother breast milk contained oligosaccharide called lacto-n-difucohexaose I. Scientists estimate that about half of women, this sugar is produced in the body. Laboratory tests demonstrated that breast milk containing it consumes significantly more effective than GBS.
