In Ukraine, not only a mother, but also any other relative can go on maternity leave.

Ukrainian laws allow you to issue decree to dad, grandfather or grandmother, at the request of the mother herself.

The registration procedure is described on the website of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine.

A person who plans to take care of a child must provide documents:

  • Child's birth certificate,
  • A certificate stating that mom refuses to go on maternity leave (or went to work earlier than it ended),
  • Document confirming relationship with the child.
Further, the responsible authorities must decide on full or partial maternity leave until the child reaches 3 years of age. If necessary, the decree can be extended until the child is 6 years old, but only if there are medical indications and without pay at work.
