Nowadays, it is almost impossible to meet a person in a winter hat somewhere in a cafe or in a cinema. But in Soviet times, women acted this way, and for many years. On the one hand, it’s convenient, because you don’t have to worry about your hair, everything is securely hidden from prying eyes. But on the other hand, it looks kind of strange. Why didn't the women of the USSR take off their furs either in the cinema, or in the dining room, or even at work?

Previously, it seemed strange only to foreigners, but now even those who were born and grew up in the USSR cannot understand it either.

Fashionable fur hats of the USSR. And why weren't they filmed even in the restaurant?

Fashion for fur hats

So, let's remember the amazing TV movie "The Irony of Fate, or Enjoy Your Bath!". It was in it that the heroine of Barbara Brylsky in some episodes appeared before the audience in a beautiful fur dress. And even her friends, who came to visit, also did not take off their hats. The film was released in the late 70s of the twentieth century, and since then the fashion for large fur hats has gone. Although back in the 50s of the same century, Soviet citizens had a fashion for fawns. For reference, this hat was made of deer fur.

These hats were not cheap, and not everyone could afford to buy them. And in the 70s, hats made of arctic fox and fox became fashionable, large, lush, chic. And again, it was quite difficult to acquire such beauty, it was possible to do this only through acquaintances. The purchase was kept as if it were a crystal vase, expensive, fashionable and beautiful.

But why were furs not filmed indoors?

Now we wear a hat to keep our heads warm, but in Soviet times everything was a little different. We can say that a fur hat used to be a sign of good prosperity, security, and you can compare it, like with the last iPhone of those years.

This means that women did not take off their hats indoors for two reasons. The first, to show their security, the second, so that no one simply stole. By the way, for the second reason, they did not even want to accept fur hats.

We go further, and again we will return to the beloved New Year's film. Remember how her friends came to visit Nadia, undressed in the hallway, and did not take off their hats either! Did they think that Hippolytus could steal them? Or were they fashionable to each other?

Now, I'm right about the hairstyles. In Soviet times, everyone did curls and bouffants, but would they have been kept under a hat? Well, no, of course not. No hairstyles, the head sweats quickly, so they were not removed. Have you also experienced something like this? You do your hair for half an hour, you put on a hat to run to work, you take it off, and there it’s not a very respectable look!

Our times

Now the fashion for huge hats has long passed. We wear ordinary small knitted hats, which can even be put into a purse if necessary. And it’s good that bouffants and super lush hairstyles are already unfashionable! Although in our time, especially young people, they no longer even wear hats, but with tight hoods.

Now, in addition, a large number of all kinds of hair care products. So, even if you take off your hat in a cafe and find a nest on your head, you can quickly fix everything and regain your human appearance.

Interesting, what do you think? Why did Soviet women actually wear fur hats even indoors? Really, not to wash your hair or comb your hair? Or did they still show in this way that they were rich? Maybe there is some other reasonable explanation?
