The Slavs had many different beliefs, and many of them were related to food. People actually believed that many foods or dishes prepared by man could have magical powers. The Slavs believed that products can help protect themselves from witchcraft or, on the contrary, they can be damaged! Let's find out what exactly in Russia they were wary of.

Bakery products

Even before Christianity was adopted, the pagans brought bread as a gift to their deities. In fact, people believed that if you shared bread with someone, you became connected with the person in a close relationship. We still meet guests with bread and salt, showing our hospitality. But in the old days, such a custom existed for a reason. The person who came to visit was asked to break off a piece of bread, dip it in salt and eat it. And it was such a kind of test. Because if a person did not want to do all the above manipulations, he had to be careful with him.

Salt

Even now many beliefs and signs are associated with salt. And in Russia there were the following. If a person asked for salt after sunset, some witchcraft thoughts were immediately attributed to him. Spilling salt meant a quarrel, now, by the way, many still believe in it. If someone salted food, they said about him that he fell in love.

cabbage soup

Interesting information was learned from this dish. In Russia, cabbage soup has always been cooked thick, rich and fragrant. So, if the woman who cooked them salted the dish, then she fell in love, if she cooked “empty” and tasteless cabbage soup, it means that she may be cheating on her husband.

Porridge

When the Slavs completed some of their business, they sat down at the table and began to eat. And there was only one dish on the table - porridge. Often they even ate from one large vat, with one spoon, which was passed around to each other in a circle. It was believed that if a person refuses to eat porridge, then he has some bad thoughts in his head. I wonder if a person simply did not want to eat or felt unwell?

Milk

It was used in various rituals, both in black magic and in white. Everything is simple. With the help of milk, it was possible to determine whether there was damage on a person, and it was also possible to bring damage with the help of this product!

Honey

In Russia, it was believed that people speak honey. If a guest brought such a treat, they were in no hurry to eat it, but for a start they let it stand. If the product darkens, it means that they started talking about it, or the person who brought it with him has some bad intentions.

Apples

With the help of apples, the Slavs could learn the secret thoughts of a person, protected themselves from witchcraft and damage. Very often this fruit was used in various magical rituals, mainly in love ones.

Mushrooms

Another product that was attributed magical properties. It was believed that if a person eats mushrooms, then he can hear strange voices and see what others do not see. Probably, now we understand this effect more clearly, mushrooms are different, there are those that even cause visual and auditory hallucinations! And in no case should they be eaten, but they used to believe that this product can be spoken!

Nowadays, some people continue to believe in some kind of magical properties of food, but this has no basis. This is a habit, this is what we received from our ancestors, these are ordinary superstitions that should not be taken seriously!
