A drug as simple and affordable as paracetamol can be hazardous to health. There are a number of foods that paracetamol can cause liver damage when combined

The cold season is in full swing. Along with the coronavirus, the flu has intensified, and no one has canceled the banal SARS. All these conditions are usually accompanied by an increase in temperature, which we knock down most often with paracetamol. This simple, affordable and safest drug is prescribed even to children in the first months of life. But there are a number of foods that paracetamol can be harmful to health when combined with. And some quite familiar foods can slow down and weaken its effect.

Ethanol products

It is difficult to imagine a person who, at a high temperature, wants to have a glass or two of alcohol. Nevertheless, among the adherents of folk "medicine" there is such a lafhak: drink vodka with pepper, lie under a blanket and sweat well. If after this experiment your temperature has not dropped, take into account: it is strictly forbidden to knock it down with paracetamol after alcohol.

Experts from the UK's National Health Service warn that the combination of ethanol (in any amount) and paracetamol can lead to toxic liver damage. Taking into account the fact that alcohol is excreted from the body for two or three days, it is also undesirable to bring down the temperature with paracetamol the next day after active libations. Moreover, during a fever, try not to eat foods that contain ethanol, even in the smallest quantities (for example, koumiss, kefir, kvass and sauerkraut).

In this case, special attention should be paid to baby food. Do not give your child fermented milk products if he has a fever and you bring down the temperature with paracetamol. Also note that ethanol is at a very low concentration, but may be present in overripe bananas (five pieces of such fruits are equivalent to a small bottle of beer), rose hips and hawthorns, as well as in soy sauce.

Products with pectin and carbohydrates

In addition to ethanol-containing products, British doctors do not recommend "mixing" paracetamol with products that are high in pectins and carbohydrates. These include all cruciferous vegetables: broccoli, cauliflower and Brussels sprouts, cabbage, arugula, and watercress.

This combination will not harm either the liver or other organs. But it can greatly slow down the effect of the drug - after taking the temperature, the temperature will decline much later. Particularly anxious people may not wait for the antipyretic effect of paracetamol and take, for example, ibuprofen. The action of the two drugs "overlaps" each other and, as a result, can provoke hypothermia (a condition when the body temperature drops below 35 degrees).

But hibiscus tea (hibiscus), according to the findings of scientists from the UK, can completely weaken the effect of paracetamol. Therefore, even despite its obvious benefits (hibiscus tea itself has a diaphoretic and diuretic effect, and is able to reduce the elevated body temperature by 0.5-1 degrees), combine it with this antipyretic does not costs. With severe fever, there is a high risk of drug overdose and increased stress on the liver.
