Endocrinologist examines a real case of his young patient
Recently, I had two patients with similar problems, who approached my recommendations in different ways. And the result was the opposite for both.
First patient: lost 10 kg in 5 months
A young woman, 32 years old, complained of being overweight.
After the examination, we made sure that this Stage 1 obesity, due to the excess flow of energy resources (a euphemism for the expression “overeat") And concomitant diagnoses: insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, fatty hepatosis (a serious liver disease).
The patient was given recommendations for a regular, balanced and moderate diet (mandatory intake of protein in every meal, with a moderate intake of fats and carbohydrates), compulsory physical activity with adherence to daily allowances rhythms.
I also prescribed a mandatory medication intake.
Eventually within 5 months the patient lost 10.8 kg of total weight. It would seem that one should rejoice: good weight loss, more than 12% of the initial weight, which is considered a good treatment result even by world standards.
What was the mistake
But the devil is in the details.
It turned out that weight loss was due to an important active cell mass (minus 5.6 kg) and musculoskeletal mass (minus 6 kg). Decreased the total amount of fluid in the body (minus 6.8 kg).
A fat left ONLY 1.5 kg.
We started to figure out what went wrong.
It turned out that the patient could not "force herself to drink water." Doesn't want to eat meat, fish, eggs, cottage cheese and other protein products. Her body only requires carbohydrates.
With this approach to nutrition, a person does not recover, but only loses time ...
And despite the fact that the patient is happy that the numbers on the scales are decreasing, I cannot rejoice at such results.
You and I need to improve body composition and slim down by increasing the volume of muscle tissue and reducing the amount of fat. This is the only way to become healthy.
And the second story is in the next part ...
