They are pleasing to the eye, and one does not want to believe that the money was wasted. This is usually enough to keep the chunks of Himalayan salt from being scolded too much.
Himalayan salt is rock salt from somewhere in Pakistan. It is pink in color. It does not fundamentally differ from ordinary table salt. You can just eat it.
This salt is used to make lamps or bricks that shine and heat.
Some people believe that Himalayan salt lamps can purify the air and add beneficial air ions to it.
About cleaning
Such a tale is widespread, the Himalayan lamp absorbs microscopic droplets of water from the air, on which various debris has adhered. Then, like from heating, this water evaporates, and the debris remains on the lamp. And so many times. There is no scientific evidence for this fantasy.
To purify the air in a room, you need to pump hundreds of cubic meters of this air every hour. Even if the salt lamp could hold debris on itself, then the whole room would have to be built from salt blocks. Nonsense.
Aeroions
In various natural minerals, there are some charges on the surface, but such things cannot become a source of air ions. Because it takes a lot of energy to noticeably increase the amount of ions in the air.
Indoors usually use large high voltage ionizers. And in all sorts of confined spaces like submarines or spaceships, isotope (radioactive) ionizers are used. That is, it is difficult and costly. No one would hesitate to load excess salt into the submarine as ballast. But for some reason they don't do that.
The funny thing is that even if the Himalayan lamp were a source of air ions, their health benefits are not particularly proven in scientific research.
Salt
Any lumps of salt indoors can slowly crack and crumble from temperature drop. We notice this salt, we inhale, but there is little benefit from it. Even from a salt cave, the benefits are very doubtful, and even from a small piece of salt - even more so.
