Kunis and Kutcher's kids don't know what a regular shower is. Parents believe that bathing weakens the immune system. Is this correct and how often should the baby be washed? Evgeny Komarovsky's opinion
Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher are one of the most beautiful couples in Hollywood. But they attract increased attention of the press not by this, but by their strict approach to raising children. In the family of Kunis and Kutcher, seven-year-old daughter Wyatt and four-year-old son Dimitri are growing up. Babies are not given presents for Christmas, they are fed on demand and bathed only when the children are visibly dirty. Star parents are sure: daily bath procedures harm the immune system. But the fans of the couple have already dubbed the children "unwashed" and believe that, on the contrary, they will often get sick. Are Kunis and Kutcher right, and what does modern medicine say about how often a baby should be bathed?
Bathing VS immunity

For the first time about their unusual approach to hygiene, Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunnis admitted in July this year. Then in an interview for the podcast Armchair Expert Mila said literally the following: “We never wash their [children] every day. We are not one of those parents who endlessly wash their children, especially newborns! " Mila (who, by the way, comes from Chernivtsi) admitted that as a child, the bathroom was rare for her pleasure. Hot water was provided by the hour, and the whole family bathed no more than once a week.
However, Mila does not bathe her children for a completely different reason. She is confident that frequent washing washes away the protective layer from the skin, weakens the immune system and reduces the body's resistance to disease. The husband completely agrees with her and believes that the children should be washed only if (literally) "you see dirt on them." And Ashton Kutcher himself is not a special fan of regular bath procedures. Every day he washes only his face, armpits and intimate places.

5 months have passed since the couple's frankness, and all this time the attention of the press was riveted on the Hollywood "dirty tricks". Fans sharply criticized the couple's attitude to the hygiene of their own children, and prophesied a whole bunch of immune diseases to Wyatt and Dimitri. However, children who are often seen walking with mom and dad look healthy and happy with life. Maybe Kunis and Kutcher's approach has a grain of common sense? We learned what modern medicine says about this.

Bathe a newborn baby really not recommended - at least until the umbilical wound has healed. Babies who are just born have a natural lubricant on the body, which protects the skin from external influences and an aggressive microbial environment. But after the navel has healed, you need to bathe the child. However, it is important for parents to understand for what purpose they are doing it.
“It is possible to bathe a child of the first year of life for hygiene, for hardening, for sports and for pleasure,” explains pediatrician Yevgeny Komarovsky on his YouTube channel. - However, parents usually mean hygiene by the word bathing. Do not confuse bathing and washing. A baby who is in diapers and practically does not get dirty should be washed with soap no more than once every two weeks. And it should be a special baby soap. "
But from the point of view of hardening, a child can swim at least every day. “To do this, you need to use a large bathtub, which will allow the child to move, move his arms and legs, breathe deeply,” says Yevgeny Komarovsky. - It is advisable that only the head sticks out of the water while swimming. When the ribcage is completely submerged, the lungs expand much wider with standard inhalation effort. Thus, bathing promotes active ventilation of the lungs, and from them all the dust and dirt that has accumulated there during the day flies out. "
In the future, the bathing regime depends on whether the child likes it. For hygiene, it is enough to swim twice a week, but a regular shower in the morning is very useful for hardening the body, notes Evgeny Komarovsky. Focus on the child's relationship with water, as well as physiology. For example, school-age children already smell of sweat, so they can be taught to partial hygiene in this particular area. But teenagers are advised to take a shower or bath daily, but at the same time soap or shower gel can be used not every day, but 2-3 times a week.
