The world begins to attack a new strain of the coronavirus "Omicron". How effective are existing vaccines against this novelty covid? Doctor Evgeny Komarovsky answers

The coronavirus continues to surprise. Only recently a new strain of "Delta" was discovered in Ukraine - "Delta plus",As unpleasant news again: the South African strain "Omicron" was found in the neighboring Czech Republic. The World Health Organization has classified it as a strain of concern. These include, for example, "Delta". And all due to the fact that "Omicron" is much more infectious than all previously known strains.

In addition, due to the large number of mutations, it can bypass our immunity to the coronavirus, developed both after a previous illness and after vaccination. In this regard, a natural question arises: how effectively can anti-coronavirus vaccines protect the existing vaccines from the new strain? Pediatrician Yevgeny Komarovsky spoke on this issue on the air of the program "Hard with Vlaschenko" on the channel "Ukraine 24".

According to the expert, it is not yet possible to give an exact answer to this question. But it can be assumed that if the strain turns out to be more dangerous than the previous ones, then another vaccine may be required.

"Now, literally within two weeks, most of the questions will be answered. A large number of people, scientists, researchers will study how the virus is transmitted, how it is transmitted in a group of vaccinated people. I believe that in 10 days we will answer all the questions, "
- noted Evgeny Komarovsky.

Recall that any vaccine does not protect against coronavirus infection. First of all, it prevents severe course and hospitalization. Therefore, even if you have completed the full course of vaccination, do not forget about the basic rules: we observe social distance, wear a mask, covering our mouth and nose, and wash our hands thoroughly.
