Famous pediatrician Yevhen Komarovsky warns Ukrainians about the dangers of a new strain of coronavirus. It is 20 times more infectious and twice as likely to end in resuscitation.
A new strain of coronavirus called "Delta" is rampant in 100 countries around the world. India, Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia, as well as our neighboring Russia, suffer the most from it. There are local outbreaks in Europe: for example, Germany has already banned the entry of citizens from Portugal. There, up to 70% of new cases of Covid-19 are in Delta. In the UK, more than 100 thousand people are sick with the new strain. Human. For the time being, the infection has bypassed Ukraine, but this is a temporary phenomenon. Pediatrician Yevgeny Komarovsky told about when we should wait for the appearance of "Delta", how it is dangerous and how to protect ourselves from it.
Since the first cases of Covid-19 appeared in the world, four mutations of this disease have already been recorded. The latest of these is an Indian strain called Delta, which is now actively spreading around the world. Its main difference from all previous variants of the coronavirus is its very high infectivity. So, according to Yevgeny Komarovsky, he is 5-15, or even 20 times more infectious than the "original" Wuhan version. Simply put, if the Wuhan virus needed to breathe 1000 conventional units for the development of the disease, then 100 such units would be enough for the Delta variant.
In addition to infectiousness, the new strain is distinguished by symptoms. According to the latest medical observations, Delta is characterized by a headache, a pronounced runny nose and nasal congestion, intense sore throat, and unpleasant gastrointestinal symptoms (abdominal pain, sometimes diarrhea). There is also evidence that this strain provokes a more severe course of the disease. Yevgeny Komarovsky emphasizes that the likelihood of getting into intensive care when infected with Delta doubles.

From the positive: according to the conclusions of doctors, it helps to prevent a severe course of the disease vaccination. Yevgeny Komarovsky says that the main vaccines that are now registered in the world do not provide one hundred percent protection against infection, but they minimize the likelihood of getting into intensive care. At least this effect has already been demonstrated by mRNA vaccines (for example, Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson).
Given the high infectivity of the new strain, as well as the rather low rates of vaccination in our country, it will not be long to wait for "Delta". Yevhen Komarovsky says that the disease in Ukraine "will soon be" and urges fellow citizens to remember about the precautions. We have already forgotten about masks and social distance, but this is the only thing that can at least somehow protect against infection with a new, more aggressive form of Covid-19.
“We can actually defend ourselves in only two ways. This is a mask. Especially in a confined space where there are many people. Also, constant ventilation of the premises and communication exclusively in the fresh air remain extremely relevant. For a virus of the "Delta" type, this is the basis of everything that can be ", - emphasizes Yevgeny Komarovsky. In addition, the doctor advises avoiding travel to regions where a new strain of coronavirus is now actively spreading.
