Hello everybody! With you again Elizaveta Pavlovna!
Sooner or later, gray hair catches up with us all. Everyone fights with it in different ways: someone takes it for granted and does not paint over it, while others are looking for any ways to paint over or make it less noticeable.
Today I will share with you useful tips for painting gray hair at home, with which a colorist friend shared with me at one time at work. Two years ago, we jointly published an article about hair dyeing with her, for which many of you thanked :-)
Hair dyeing at home is very important today. If only because not everyone has the opportunity to give huge sums every month to the master in the salon. Let's take a look at the important points for high-quality gray hair coloring.
There are two methods of coloring to make the color work better on gray hair: prepigmentation and loosening the hair walls.
Pre-pigmentation
This is the saturation of the hair with color before the main dyeing. Suitable for those who have more than 70% gray hair or have gray strands.
For prepigmentation, choose natural shades of paint - these are numbers, where after "."go"00". For example: 3.00, 4.00, 5.00, 6.00, etc.
In this case, you need to mix the paint not with an oxidant, but with water in a 1: 2 ratio. For example, you took 50 ml of paints, which means you take 100 ml of water.
The resulting composition is applied only to gray hair, so it is important to consider how many of them you have on your head. It is necessary to withstand the composition for 15-20 minutes, after that we paint the hair over the composition with the usual paint mixed with an oxidant. The exposure time is 45 minutes.
If you want to dye your hair to match your natural color, then for thin and soft hair, choose a dye that is lighter in tone to avoid darkening. On coarse hair, choose a shade one shade darker than the desired result.
Loosening the walls of the hair
Loosening the walls of the hair is necessary in order for the pigment to penetrate better into the hair. There are actually several ways, but I will tell you about the two safest for home staining.
- If you have little gray hair and it is not vitreous, then in order to loosen the walls of the hair, you will need a deep cleaning shampoo.
- With the help of an oxidant (oxygenate) 6 or 9%. Oxide is applied to all hair, kept for 25 minutes, then paint of the desired color is applied over the oxide. The main rule is not to wash off the oxide before applying the paint, otherwise nothing will happen.
Color selection
As I already wrote above, it is best to take paint with a natural undertone for dyeing gray hair. And all because if there is paint in the room after "." there are numbers above zero - she is not able to fully paint over her gray hair.
If natural shades are not for you, and you want something unusual, then no problem - you can mix two colors. Thus, you will "kill two birds with one stone": paint over the gray hair and get the desired shade.
So, you buy two paints, one of the natural range, for example 5.00, the second with the desired shade of 5.45 and mix with each other. But keep in mind that the amount of dye should depend on how much gray hair you have.
- If you have no more than 25% gray hair, then we take the proportions of 1/3, that is, one part 5.00 and two parts 5.45. To make it clearer, I will write out approximate grammages (Please note that the amount of dye depends on the length and thickness of your hair). Natural color (5.00) take 15g, and paint with the desired shade (5.45) - 30g. Weighing can be done on an ordinary kitchen scale; accuracy is very important in color. The greater the error, the more tears you will shed.
- If the gray hair is from 25% to 80%, then the paint can be mixed in the same proportions 1/1. For example: 5.00 we take 20g. and 5.45 is also 20g, everything is simpler here.
- If gray hair is more than 80%, then more than 2/3 of the natural range should be added. For example: 5.00 we take 30gr., And 5.45 hence 15gr.
I hope I explained everything in an accessible and understandable way, tried to convey to you in more or less simple language. If you still have any questions, be sure to ask them in the comments.
