It turns out that proper oral hygiene is important not only for the beautiful smile and pleasant breath. As shown by recent studies, it is necessary for health and some other organs.
It was found during the experiment that those who frequently visit the dentist and brushing their teeth in the morning / evening and after every meal, not only have healthy periodontium, but also belong to the group of people who have significantly reduced the risk of sessile serrated polyps (ssPs), as well as adenomas.
The study was conducted in 1564 examination of the patient. And they all passed, including a colonoscopy for examining the relationship between colorectal cancer and microbial dysbiosis.
Scientists surveyed patients were divided into several groups on several grounds:
- only with adenomatous polyps;
- only with hyperplastic polyps;
- only with sessile serrated lesions;
- synchronous adenomatous polyps, sessile serrated lesions complicated;
- and all without polyps.
Frequency of visits to the dental office in the course of the study serves as an identifier of dental health, coupled with the possibility of developing polyps.
Patsienty who visited the dentist every six months, had a much lower risk of simultaneous lesion adenomatous polyps and sessile serrated polyps than those who do (or long) did not go to dentist. And a whopping 34% lower risk of tumors were developing in the gut in people undergoing routine inspection of the oral cavity at least 1 or even 2 times a year.
Frequent visits to the dentist subjects helped to identify the relationship with adenomas and reduce the risk of polyps themselves about a third.
Scientific opinion on the matter boils down to the definition of the research as a "promising and important in preventing both dental and intestinal pathologies." To date, they are considered "suggestive", but until the results of such studies can not be considered statistically significant.
