American scientists conducted a study to find out which patients most often died from coronavirus.

Scientists from Tulane University in the United States analyzed medical histories of 287 patients with coronavirus between March 30 and April 5 (the first stage of the pandemic).

Most often, the disease ended in death for patients who were admitted to doctors with high blood pressure, obesity and diabetes. Death came from complications caused by the virus.

The average age of the patients is 61 years. The most common diagnoses were hypertension, obesity and diabetes. In addition, we drew attention to the rare presence of low density lipoproteins in the blood.

Doctors divided patients into two groups - with metabolic syndrome and without it. In the first group, 56% of patients ended up in the intensive care unit, 48% were connected to a ventilator, and 26% died.

In the second group, the indicators were 24%, 11% and 10%.

The patient is diagnosed with metabolic syndrome if he has at least 3 of 5 conditions: hypertension, high blood sugar, obesity, high triglycerides, and low good cholesterol.
