Unfortunately, even a mild form of coronavirus in children can have consequences, namely, vascular pathology.

This became known during research doctors from the Children's Hospital in Philadelphia (USA). They found that children who are asymptomatic or mild coronavirus, the so-called thrombolytic microangiopathy, a disease of the vascular system, often develops.
We have found an increase in the level of certain substances, which are biological markers that the child has damaged blood vessels. And such pathologies, their presence and intensity, at first glance, are not associated with the form of coronavirus. Up to 86% of children with coronavirus in their bodies had clinical and diagnostic manifestations of microangiopathy.
Why is thrombolytic microangiopathy dangerous for a child? The disease negatively affects the state of the child's blood vessels, and in adults, for example, it often provokes a severe form. But doctors cannot yet reliably say how pathology will affect the health of children in the long term, and whether it will affect it at all.

Philadelphia plans to further investigate the effects of coronavirus on the child's body. Scientists want to know if hospitalization at a certain stage will help avoid consequences for the vascular system.

  • in which case will a child catch coronavirus for sure?
