American researchers have come to the conclusion that sometimes the coronavirus is manifested by prolonged hiccups.
In the American Journal of Emergency Medicine, scientists Garrett Prince and Michelle Sergel described a case of a 62-year-old man with coronavirus.
He turned to doctors due to the fact that for 4 days he suffered from constant hiccups.
The patient had none of the classic symptoms of COVID-19, no fever, no loss of taste or smell, no shortness of breath. The man suffered from diabetes, hypertension and coronary heart disease, the temperature at the time of hospitalization was 37.3 degrees (normal variant).
After an X-ray of the lungs, it turned out that the organ had opacity of ground glass, tomography confirmed the pathology, and later, doctors conducted laboratory tests of the man's blood (the level of leukocytes, platelets and sodium was reduced). The man was tested for coronavirus the next day, positive. He underwent treatment and is already at home.
Doctors will have to figure out if the coronavirus could have provoked an attack of hiccups.
