To do this, the virus uses a protein contained in the host's cell. The ACE2 protein turned out to be such a traitor in humans, and it is very closely associated with the work of the heart, including in the lungs. With age, the activity of this protein increases, therefore, it becomes easier for the virus to penetrate the cell.
Komarovsky also noted that protein activity increases in people who are constantly taking drugs to treat hypertension.
