Parents always carefully listen to the sounds that the newborn makes to make sure that everything is fine with him. But what if you notice that your baby often grunts during and after meals? Why is this happening and what does it mean?

1. The child grunts due to intestinal discomfort.

The baby's digestive system is just starting to work, she gradually learns to cope with milk. But this process is usually accompanied by increased gas production. It gives the child inconvenience, because he begins to groan, tries to fidget.

What to do about it? Before feeding, it is advisable to lay the baby on his stomach for at least a couple of minutes, and after feeding - to wear it in a "column". This helps to escape excess air, prevents abdominal pain, colic and regurgitation. Between feedings, you can do a light stroking massage of the abdomen, press the baby's legs to the stomach, this also helps to cope with gas. The main thing is not to do it immediately after feeding, but to pause at least 1 hour.

2. The child grunts because he empties.

When the baby starts eating, his digestive system is activated, and accordingly it works not only for the absorption of food in the stomach, but also for excretion from the intestines. This is a normal process.

Grunting can also mean a baby's attempt to push, which has not yet led to a result. If the child has constipation, then he begins to grunt more.

What to do about it? If the baby is empty, we change the diaper and continue feeding. If the baby has constipation, we wait up to 7 days, for newborns this is normal. If the baby is very worried about the stomach, you can put a baby glycerin candle.

3. In rare cases, grunting can mean the presence of pathology.

In such cases, it is also accompanied by the crying of the child. Then you need to urgently consult a pediatrician. You cannot give any medicine to the baby without a doctor's prescription.
