Minute weakness, deterioration of health and a decrease in visual acuity for a while - many simply do not pay attention to these symptoms. Well, "got sick" and got sick, you never know... And you need to understand that, most likely, these were the harbingers of a transient ischemic attack (TIA) - one of the most dangerous disorders of cerebral circulation.
If TIA is recognized early, stroke can be prevented! This means to avoid the development of severe motor and speech impairments, and with them cognitive and many others.
TIA symptoms
They say that the signs of a transient ischemic attack are simply impossible to miss. This is not true. It turns out that most of those who underwent TIA did not seek medical help. The symptoms were short-lived, and therefore many cases of microstroke were undiagnosed and left without due attention.
Meanwhile, both the patient and his loved ones need to know which manifestations are considered alarming and require immediate assistance:
- sudden numbness, weakness, especially if it is present only on one side of the body;
- impaired speech and impaired understanding of the speech of others;
- a sharp loss of vision in one / both eyes, double vision;
- difficulties with movement that appeared suddenly;
- severe sudden dizziness;
- loss of balance, coordination.
Most of the listed symptoms disappear on their own within an hour, although some may "linger" for a day. At the same time, the patient himself cannot objectively assess the severity of his condition, therefore, in the first few hours after the attack, you should definitely consult a doctor.
Many people think that if the symptoms have passed, then there is no need to go to the doctor. But short-term cerebral circulation disorders also require diagnostics. Thanks to this, up to 95% of all stroke patients (among those who applied in time) return to a full life.
Among ordinary people, it is believed that temporary circulatory disorders pass without a trace for health. This is not true at all! Even the seemingly insignificant signs of TIA should alert. It is the short duration of the transient ischemic attack that misleads patients, and they do not seek help. But TIA is a harbinger of a stroke! The risk of developing this dangerous disease in the first two days after TIA is increased by 4-10%, and in the next 3 months - by 10-20%.
They say that it is still impossible to prevent a stroke or TIA. Let them talk to themselves! Don't listen. It is in the power of people to prevent up to 80% of all possible cases of cerebrovascular accident. Prevention of any cardiovascular problem is a lifestyle correction. You need to eat right, exercise and monitor your own condition - that's all. By the way, the consumption of vegetables and fruits, that is, foods low in animal fats, reduces the risk of developing acute cerebrovascular accident.
Many are convinced that "all sorts" of cerebrovascular accidents are a problem for the elderly. Meanwhile, both a stroke and TIA can develop at any age. The risk really increases with age, because there already and bad habits have taken root, and mobility has become noticeably less, and diseases associated with a whole "bouquet". But today, there are often cases when strokes occur in young people, and even in children. This means that you should always listen to changes in your condition.
It is difficult to overestimate the importance of TIA diagnosis and appropriate correction. Remember: going to a doctor within the first 2-3 hours after an attack prevents up to a third of possible strokes! So don't pull and ignore!
