Why is the tooth not growing?
Congenital adentia (a disease in which one or several teeth of a row are missing) occurs quite often - in about every tenth person on earth. It is because of her that even the rudiment of a tooth - milk and / or permanent - is not formed in a small child.
Sometimes this pathology accompanies other congenital disorders. However, it may or may not be related to overall health. Scientists have already discovered several genes, mutations in which exactly explain adentia. By the way, this condition is also inherited - its probability in children is higher if parents, brothers, sisters have adentia.
Scientists explain this very innate adentia by human evolution. Indeed, when studying the skulls of our ancient ancestors, it was revealed that their (ancestors') dentition was much smoother and stronger than ours. And now 70% of the world's population has dental problems of various kinds. And a lot of people have observed:
- crowded teeth;
- difficulties with teething, including wisdom teeth;
- actually adentia.
Due to the transition of the absolute majority to softer food, the size of the human jaw has noticeably decreased, but the teeth have not yet managed to "shrink" at the same speed. And genetics solved the problem of lack of space in the most radical way - by reducing the number of teeth.
Adentia: how dangerous is it?
Well, of course, the edentulous person has problems. And not only aesthetic (especially since we are talking about aesthetics only when there are no front teeth).
Missing teeth for any reason is always bad. The empty space will begin to fill - the adjacent teeth will tilt and the upper ones will move out. The load on the jaw in general will begin to distribute incorrectly - it will be deformed, bone tissue will begin to collapse. And all this cannot but lead to diseases (caries, periodontitis, and others like them) and poor hygiene (the accumulation of more bacteria in places free from teeth).
Adentia is also reflected in the appearance of the human face - it changes and not for the better. Joint pain also occurs. If we are talking about children with the absence of milk teeth, in the future this may cause difficulties with the teething of molars, bite. So you should contact the orthodontist in a timely manner for a solution to the problem.
What to do?
Identity and the difficulties that it causes are dealt with by an orthodontist. However, dentists of other specialties can also be involved in the treatment process. The missing teeth are replaced with implants. Neighboring teeth are moved apart and aligned with braces (after all, if they move / move, then you will have to free up space for the implant).
Sometimes the gaps are closed with bridges (by the way, today they no longer require painful intensive turning). But this is not the best way, since the bridge also redistributes the load incorrectly - over two adjacent teeth.
When the length of the jaw does not allow either an implant or a prosthesis to be placed, special orthodontic treatment is performed. And only after it, either ceramic veneers are installed, or the restoration of the dentition is carried out modern filling materials (this, however, is more expensive, but later will not require either correction or replacement).
