I came from a manicure and my fingers began to itch. Allergy to gel polish, what is it and why does it occur

Unfortunately, I know about it firsthand. Allergy to gel polish really touched me a year and a half ago, and there is little pleasant about it.

Before the manifestation of allergies, I applied the coating regularly for two years on gel polishes of two companies. But one day my cuticles started to itch. I did not immediately understand that the reason was in the gel polish, and continued to walk with the coating, but then everything only got worse. The skin around the coating began to peel off and soon became a crust, the itching did not stop, and all this in a couple of days.

It happens. I am not demonizing gel polish, otherwise those who read crookedly and, as usual, did not understand the message that allergies are possible, will again appear in the comments, each of them may appear differently on gel polish. Someone can generally bypass such a misfortune.

At first I thought I was just allergic to something. For example, a cream or some kind of detergent. I just couldn't think of gel polish, because I have been doing it for a long time, and everything was fine until that moment.

When it finally dawned on me what the reason was, several days passed and it was impossible to look at my fingers without tears. I hid my hands and how shy I was. Do not ask why I didn’t apply to hand, for me this question also remains a mystery. Now I would immediately run to a dermatologist or straight to an allergist.

I took off the cover and it immediately became better for me, I am a desperate girl after a break of a week decided to cover a couple of nails, so to speak, for greater persuasiveness. And yes, I was finally convinced that the reason is in the gel polish, or rather, in the components that are contained in the base.

And since then, I have not covered my nails with gel polish for almost two years, I have already got used to it. But for the first months I was terrified how hard it was to perceive my nails without coating.

By the way, a penny cream "Zazhivin", which I bought at Fix-price, helped me to quickly remove the crust from my fingers and bring everything into a divine form. Suddenly, I tell you.

Someone allergic to gel polish manifests itself in the area of the fingertips. It is even worse and unpleasant when it constantly itches in those places.

Why is there an allergy to gel polish?

To be more precise, allergies can manifest itself on the base and the liquid to remove the sticky layer, as well as on the color with the top. And even on a UV lamp or on a sticky layer from the top. It can be either a contact allergy (I had one), or a respiratory one, it is even worse - with complications it can lead to Quincke's edema.

Gel polish remover

Now most of the craftsmen remove the old coating with sawdust, but there are those who prefer soaking. During the soaking procedure, the liquid is in direct contact not only with the coating, but also with the skin. The process itself aggravates everything: the product is applied to a napkin, applied to the nail and the whole thing is wrapped in foil, which creates a greenhouse effect and is kept for several minutes.

Skin contact may also react to the dehydrator or primer.

Bases, color coating, top

The bases and color coatings often contain such components as isobornyl methakylate, formaldehyde and its derivatives, butyl acetate, toulol, rosin, etc. They can cause an allergic reaction, especially if they come into contact with the skin. For example, when the master makes a coating under the cuticle and touches the skin. Or when the coating has dripped onto the nail roller and instead of wiping off the drip, the master removes it with a pusher or a wooden stick, which rubs it even more into the skin.

It should be noted that most of the gel polishes of luxury brands and Chinese manufacturers have some of the above components. But sometimes it's a matter of concentration and compliance with all quality standards. And also in the cheapness of raw materials that are used in cheap gel varnishes. Therefore, an allergic reaction to Chinese counterparts is quite common. But you cannot do without these components in the composition, they are responsible for the "adhesion" of the coating to the nail plate, the smoothness of the coating and the durability of the coating (unlike conventional varnishes).

Allergic reaction to the sticky layer from the top

When removing the sticky layer, craftsmen often use one napkin for all nails. Because of this, the sticky layer, when removed, can come into contact with the skin, which sooner or later can lead to allergies.

Allergy to UV lamp

Such a reaction is not common, but it also takes place. It is not the lamp itself that is to blame, but the disease that the client already has. If a reaction to ultraviolet light has been noticed or a person has very sensitive skin, then it is better to refuse such a manicure in favor of coatings that do not require polymerization in a lamp.

Allergies do not always appear immediately, sometimes they have a cumulative effect up to several weeks or years. And sometimes it doesn't exist at all. It all depends on your body and immunity. Do not believe in nonsense about strong or weak immunity: let everyone with strong immunity try to fly away without insurance to rest in Thailand and eat their local food all month, one day he admits that immunity is not very strong. This is a very individual thing, a pig in a poke.

At the first signs of allergy, it is best to contact an allergist, who, after conducting tests, will identify the cause. For a better result, if you are allergic to nail polish with gel polish, you should abandon this type of manicure. How much? This is all very individual: for someone in a month everything will return to normal, while someone will need a year (by the way, the masters are advised to abandon the coating for at least a year).

Take care of yourself, health is more important than a perfect manicure.
