Hello dear readers :-)
As promised, I am continuing my series of articles on the causes of hair loss and cessation of hair growth.
We have already considered two reasons: this is natural loss (what, how and why this happens) and the gastrointestinal tract. Who missed - links to previous materials at the end of this article.
Poor scalp care and infrequent hair washing
Quite a common reason why hair grows slower or falls out altogether.
This is especially true when trying to "retrain" the scalp so that it gets less dirty. The head should be washed as it gets dirty, and if necessary, then every day. Better yet, go to a trichologist, who, after the examination, will find out what is the reason for the increased oily scalp.
It is possible that the matter will not do with one trichologist, you may also have to visit an endocrinologist and a gastroenterologist. After all, we have already talked about the fact that the problem of poor growth can be due to internal problems. And by the way, if you have a very oily scalp, it doesn't hurt to have your liver checked.
So why does poor scalp cleansing lead to slow hair growth? And why does it negatively affect the condition of the hair in general?
Our skin produces (i.e. produces) a natural lubricant - sebum. It protects the skin from moisture loss and serves as a natural antiseptic, but all this is only subject to normal functioning of the sebaceous glands.
With an excessive production of sebum, everything is exactly the opposite. Excess sebum leads to oily scalp and hair. As a result, you can face very unpleasant consequences - dandruff.
I have already mentioned in my articles about the yeast-like fungus malasseziathat we have on our skin, and that's okay. But when you stop washing your hair on time, the malassezia fungus begins to multiply, because sebum is an excellent food for them, and here you are arranging a buffet for them.
The more food in the form of excess sebum on the scalp for Malassezia, the more they become - the fungus begins to multiply. Here they all together absorb your sebum, which is in excess, and begin to secrete unsaturated fatty acids - it is they that cause inflammation, peeling of the skin, the barrier function of the skin weakens, irritation appears.
In the future, this attitude to the scalp can lead to seborrheic dermatitis. While your skin is covered with a layer of sebum, and the oily scalp accumulates dirt faster, then another layer weekly mud mixed with fat simply causes the sebaceous ducts to become clogged and become inflamed.
The scalp is covered with a thick layer of fat, which also smells unpleasant. Hair begins to grow more slowly, and as a result, it completely falls out. And in the future, seborrheic dermatitis is not far off.
But you also don’t need to wash your hair more often than it requires. We all know a simple rule: the more we dry out the skin, the more sebum is produced.
This is how two simple rules in hair care are explained in a voluminous and complex way:
1) wash your hair as it gets dirty;
2) cleanse the scalp (the best thing is to do peels).
