What are antioxidants and why do we need so
In our bodies every second is a struggle of oxidants and antioxidants.
Oxidants are produced as a result of different oxidation reactions, including those aimed at power generation, such as combustion of fats. This so-called free radicals - a molecule with a free electron, which tend to react with other molecules.
If free radicals are so many, their active position in life to no good arguments: It may compromise the integrity of cell membranes and that very badly, DNA integrity.
For example, if for some reason the main source of energy becomes fat (With ketogenic diet, hunger, inflammations and overloads) then the blood is thrown out a lot of free radicals. And antioxidants, which are produced in cells that do not have enough.
One of the most popular theories of aging is associated with membrane damage by free radicals. That is one of the research papers on the topic.
The most powerful antioxidant in the body called superoxide dismutase, SOD for short. I have a version of that the consonance with soda confuses people, and perhaps this is one reason why many have begun to actively take soda "health." This, of course, is not worth doing.
To SOD elaborated in the body should be in abundance calcium, magnesium, manganese, zinc, copper, D3 and vitamins of group B.
That's why my patients always pass tests for vitamins: When solve complex health issues, it is necessary that the body was in plenty of building material.
If the ODS is insufficient, the nitrogen oxide (the major signaling molecule, i.e., the transmitting signal from cell to cell) goes to the dark side and becomes a source for the formation of the strong oxidant in the body - peroxynitrite, which leads to DNA breaks.
Interestingly, some substances can be oxidants and antioxidants. Such a substance is uric acid.
For example, when we eat the fruit, then the metabolism of fructose is formed very much uric acid, which protects us from free radicals.
But as soon as we are overdoing, uric acid becomes too much, it starts to harm itself shifts the balance in favor of oxidants.
Another very important to note that the anti-inflammatory antioxidants are soldiers of the army, since oxidative stress is one of the sides of inflammation.
Why am I writing this? I started to have two important themes - about tea and about the ketogenic diet, and it is a necessary prologue.
