How to recognize happiness in the face: the unexpected findings of scientists

All the people from time to time lie. But some do it so skillfully that recognize a person says the truth or, to put it mildly, dreams, is not so easy. And even if a person does not deceive you, sometimes for his seemingly meaningless words, hiding completely different emotions. For a neutral expression on his face can hide the anger, aggression, sadness or joy that people for some reason is trying to hide from you.

It turns out, know the truth, you can not only certain gestures and facial expressions, but also on the colored pattern - subtle changes in color on different parts of our face.

That is the conclusion after a series of ISSstudies made by scientists at Ohio State University, reports Science Daily.

"Multi-colored patterns on our face due to circulation, which controls the central nervous system. Our eye not only sees these patterns, but also subconsciously or consciously compares them with emotion, "- says one of the authors of the research scientist and cognitive scientist Aleyks Martinez.

To test their hypothesis, Martinez and his colleagues have done a lot of photos of human faces showing different emotions. And then analyzed the patterns on them with the help of a computer program. So it turned out that happiness is a sign of redness of the cheeks and temples, surprise manifested by redness of the forehead and a slight bluish chin. And this happens regardless of gender, skin color or nationality.

Then with the help of computer scientists caused these patterns on the face with a neutral expression and showed them 20 volunteers to guess what emotions a person experiences in the picture.

In 70% of people believed that a neutral person with a "happy" design really shows happiness, and with a sad - sadness.

Then scientists have developed a computer algorithm that compares the face image with emotion. As it turned out, the easiest way to recognize happiness. His computer to recognize 90% of cases, as most were recognizable emotions such as anger and sadness. Fear of the program to recognize 70% of cases. Aversion proved the most difficult to recognize emotion - only 65% of cases.

According to the researchers, the study shows that the expression "to shame" or "turn blue from anger" has a specific meaning.

"Regarding the fake blush created by make-up... I think that we are using make-up to appear happier than beautiful. Now that we know a little more about the color of the face, we can begin to create "intelligent" makeup that helps emphasize or hide certain feelings, "- said Martinez.

Also find out any negative emotions can become a cause of disease.
