There comes an age when the opinion of friends means more than parents' advice.
Try different genres: humor, detective stories, science fiction, sentimental stories. Maybe he just had not found what he was to his taste. Arrange a small library of right in his room or take away place in the overall bookcase. Write it in the nursery or the district library. Librarians can help make a choice.
