How to instill in children a love of reading

Psychologists and educators say that parents should teach their children to love the book from infancy. Reading should be a child something pleasant: the world of new knowledge, adventure, emotions and feelings, but not the obligation, which is to be performed under the lash.

Parents thus form a child's positive attitude towards reading. Moms and dads should be an example for your child: it is necessary that he saw that the senior is also a great pleasure to read books.

The main thing is to remember the following rules:

Enjoy reading people learn over the years, so do not ask your child to suddenly become a great lover of books. Do not impose your taste of the child. Do not reproach your child, if, in your opinion, he reads books too simple for his age. To read anything more complex, need motivation: suggest the story is more complex, but that it was an interesting or funny.

The great thing - it is when it is possible to combine reading with other interests. If your child is interested in nature, then, of course, he liked the book, the characters of which are animals. Begin reading to the kid, he still can not speak. And when he will read itself, keep the ritual of "reading in the afternoon" or "overnight". Read aloud to your child, for his roles in turn - to the mutual satisfaction.

Take advantage of the psychological principle of "unfinished actions": reading aloud, stop at the most interesting place (oh, sorry, I must go, we stayed here) and leave the child alone with a book... And after a while ask: "Well, tell that there was more, I'm very interested!" See for yourself "myself" in his eyes. He must see that you like it. Sometimes it is because there is a desire to know, too, it is a pleasure.

Accept the fact that he would read a book or a series of comics. This is also a reading! Encourage your child to try to write stories in pictures. Sign it to some magazine: about soccer, equestrian sport - that it more to their liking. The magazine looks less impressive than a book. Ask his friends that they read. There comes an age when the opinion of friends means more than parents' advice.

Try different genres: humor, detective stories, science fiction, sentimental stories. Maybe he just had not found what he was to his taste. Arrange a small library of right in his room or take away place in the overall bookcase. Write it in the nursery or the district library. Librarians can help make a choice. Walk together in the bookstore when there is not a lot of people. If a child chooses a book that you for some reason are not satisfied, go to a compromise: we will buy it, and you yourself will be read and worshiped together what pleases me.
