Why do we celebrate March 8? Our usual version: because Gladiolus, to be exact - a tulip. But seriously, because it is a lot of years to celebrate our mothers and grandmothers. And who actually came up with this holiday, for sure, is still an open question for you.
Editorial kolobok.uaI decided to find out exactly to whom we owe the occasion of March 8, which, by the way, in Ukraine may be canceled. In the meantime, we have to answer 3 curious version.
Version 1. "March of empty pots"
According to this version, in March 1857 workers in New York and Chicago, staged on the streets "march of empty pots ", demanding better working conditions and higher wages, so that they have that in the pan put.
Half a century later, on the last Sunday of February, the New York workers again filled the streets demanding for itself the right to participate in elections on an equal basis with men. And 2 years later, in 1910, all American women know that March 8 is celebrated their Women's Day. So this holiday began its triumphal march around the world.
Version №2. "Mom's" holiday - Clara and Rosa
If you believe the stories, in the same, in 1910, brought the newly advanced American "Women's Day" in the capital of Denmark - Copenhagen - the Second International Conference of Socialist. They are also "advertised" a feast for the women of Europe.
And it urged not just to celebrate "Women's Day", and the International Day of solidarity of women in the struggle for economic, social and political equality with men. So there!
The idea was picked up Clara Zetkin and Rosa Luxemburg - and away we go. First Women's Day, celebrated on the 19th of March, and then - 8th. Rose and Clara chose to celebrate it is the 8th day of March is not easy: the figure 8 is more reminiscent of a woman's body.
Version 3. Male look at the Women's Day
Men are absolutely certain: the idea of March 8 belongs to the devil... (here we smile). Yeah, they have a hard time with the beginning of spring: you have to puzzle over the gifts and bouquets of the lady of the heart, mother, daughter, shefini and colleagues.
