The doctor dispelled the myths about monkeypox: Are we waiting for a new pandemic

Now there are many alarming messages that are being recorded in the world monkeypox patients: There are already 30 people in Spain, 20 in the UK, 23 in Portugal. There are cases in the USA, Canada, Australia, Italy, France, Sweden, Germany and Belgium.

It's quite an exotic disease. mortality from it reaches 3-6 percent. That is, out of 100 cases, up to 6 people can die. By comparison, the common flu has only 1 percent.

Is Monkeypox Worth It?

As far as I can tell, the monkeypox pandemic does not threaten humanity. We have a vaccine against smallpox. Many of us have been vaccinated since childhood. And this vaccine gives cross-immunity to other types of smallpox, which are plentiful in the world.

In the 80s, mass vaccination against smallpox was stopped, the disease is considered completely eradicated. But in general there is immunity on the planet, and those who, on duty, work with dangerous diseases continue to be vaccinated.

In addition, this disease spreads among monkeys and is characteristic of a humid tropical climate. Of course, there is still a lot of incomprehensibility in the current outbreak, but so far all cases are somehow related to tourism to tropical places.

In general, in central and western Africa, people from time to time became infected with monkeypox: both from animals and from each other, through close contact. Usually this results in 2-4 weeks of fever, skin rash. For example, in the Congo since the beginning of the year, 1.2 thousand cases have been officially registered, of which about 60 are fatal.

Our scientists from the company "Vector" have created an autonomous test system that very quickly allows you to identify the presence of this infections, and anywhere, without being tied to a laboratory, which can make it possible to identify sick people at the entrance to country.

And, of course, we have a vaccine reserve in our country.

We will monitor the situation until there is nothing to be afraid of.
