What are the benefits of skiing over running on a treadmill?

Hello, nice to see you on my channel about health. Today I want to share one very interesting observation.

I take care of my body and try to devote my free time to physical activity. In winter, once a week on weekends, I have a choice - run 3 km on a treadmill in a comfortable fitness room (this could be your ad πŸ˜‚) or go skiing. I prefer the second option. There are a number of reasons for this. That's what we'll talk about below.

I want to say right away that running on a treadmill is a very useful exercise (we will not consider ordinary running, since in winter it is dangerous to run on a slippery or snowy road). During the lesson, the pulse quickens, the cardiovascular system is activated, blood flow improves. There is a load on the muscular system and the musculoskeletal system. Legs, abs and back are trained. Plus, it's good for weight loss.

But the benefits of running on a treadmill don't end there. As you know, during exercise, in the pituitary gland (part of the brain) endorphins are produced. These hormones protect the body from stress, improve mood, and there is a feeling of euphoria. There is even such a term "runner's euphoria" (

Yes, after such a boast of running, it makes no sense to talk about skiing? I thought so too, until I noticed something. The next day after training on the track, I have discomfort in the area of the kneecaps.

While running, there is a slight impact of the foot on the surface. The knees absorb short-term contact. With a long workout, such a load can adversely affect the knees. This is where the advantage of ski walking comes in, which does not involve the percussive movement of the feet.

Also, due to ski poles, the load is distributed not only between the legs, but also partially passes to the muscles of the hands (shoulders and biceps workout). Therefore, skiing is a more "complex exercise" than running on a treadmill. Do you think that's it? No, it was there. Now the main plus for which I go skiing.

The opportunity to breathe clean forest air is priceless. In our area, the ski track runs through a picturesque park, where there are many coniferous trees. The lungs are filled with oxygen much more intensively than when exercising indoors. And what landscapes... mmm. I combine active loading with psychological unloading.

Someone will say skiing is not for everyone, it is difficult to learn how to ski correctly. Yes, it is difficult to immediately go "skating". But for the "classics" no special skills are needed. Got on the ski track and slowly went. The main thing is to enjoy the process.

I think I clearly explained the benefits of skiing before training on a treadmill. Do not forget that if you feel it is not important for yourself, you should contact a specialist (no training can replace qualified treatment).
