Especially - next to other vegetables and fruits
Climacteric products - what is it?
In fact, this name has nothing to do with menopause. This is the name of fruits and vegetables that can ripen on the windowsill and do not need to be stored in the refrigerator.
For example, tomatoes, bananas, avocados, mangoes, papayas, melons, passion fruits, apricots, kiwis, and apples.
"Climacteric" fruits can be picked green, in a state of so-called technical maturity.
And they got their not too euphonious name from the term "climacterium" (from the ancient Greek "staircase"). It means a temporary sharp rise in breathing at the end of ripening.
climacteric fruits continue to release ethylene (i.e. "breathe") even after they have been removed from the branch, while other fruits and vegetables remain lifeless.
And, by the way, “breathing” fruits cannot be kept next to non-breathing ones, as the latter will quickly deteriorate.
And the refrigerator is not for them.
