Surprisingly, there are people who do not dream at all. I don’t know what it could be connected with, with severe fatigue or with the ability to really turn off your brain? But today we are talking about what dreams are. I found 5 different theories.

5 completely different answers to the question: what are dreams?

These are predictions that need to be put into practice.

Many psychologists are of the opinion that dreams are a real miracle that should be followed. After all, such a wonderful function of dreams as an opportunity to prepare for bad or good should be appreciated! When a person is awake, this also happens. For example, he makes spins for the winter, stocks up on food, because it is cold in winter, etc. Absolutely everything that a person does depends on his ability to foresee the future. And in a dream, this kind of thinking that prepares us continues. This is especially useful when the mind in a dream begins to signal danger.

These are clues that help us decide what to do.

A theory held by psychiatrists and many psychologists as well. For example, Sigmund Freud even wrote an interpretation of dreams, to which he was inspired by a dream he had on the eve of his father's death. Abraham Lincoln often used clues from his dreams. His colleagues recalled that before each significant event of the war, he had very vivid dreams. And several nights in a row on the eve of the assassination, Lincoln dreamed of a funeral!

These are messages from our unconscious

By the way, Freud spoke about such a theory. Dreams help to cognize the unconscious activity of the mind. That is, the purpose of dreams is the realization of some hidden and suppressed desires, and their meaning must be understood associatively. And Carl Jung said that a person's dreams are the road to those places of the mind that are outside of his consciousness.

This is a real set of specific data

Somewhere after the 50s of the last century, dreams began to be taken more seriously. The phase of REM sleep was opened. Modern scientists take pictures of the brain while a person is sleeping, thereby trying to recognize brain activity. Scientists have found that more often in dreams a person is present not alone, but with those people to whom he is emotionally attached, dreams reflect what worries us in a relationship, thereby it turns out to overestimate them in reality, and find a way out of difficult situations.

These are memories

And according to the theory of neuroscientists, dreams are nothing but our memories. Moreover, they can be familiar to us, or generally alien. Images can even be fantastic, and they have nothing to do with consciousness, they are unreal, because they contain several memories at once. Scientists have worked hard on this theory by conducting experiments. For example, there was such an experiment when the test subjects were asked to go through a difficult maze, and then go to bed. Almost all of the subjects dreamed of the same labyrinth, i.e. they had his memory.

Biologists conducted an experiment with birds, and found that their brains have the same activity during sleep as they do when they are awake. Of course, it will not work to find out from the birds what exactly they are dreaming of, but experts are sure that it is in a dream that they are trying to hone their abilities.

Those are some interesting theories. And which one is closer to you? Maybe you have your own opinion on this matter? Do you believe in prophetic dreams, and how often do you have them?
