Now almost every resident of the city dreams of having a small house outside the city. After all, village life has a number of advantages, the most important of which is the presence of a large number of all kinds of vegetation around. Fresh air, trees, grass, birds, butterflies, peace and quiet - there you can definitely relax in body and soul, not like in a dusty and noisy city.

And therefore, it is rather strange to look at old photos of villages and villages, where there is absolutely no vegetation around the houses! Not that there are no bushes with flowers, flower beds, but generally zero trees and grass! Yes, there are plowed fields and some vegetation, but these are mainly potatoes and other vegetables. And then the question arises: where are all the plants, why is everything so bare and bald?

Villages of the past

Why 100 years ago there was practically no vegetation in the villages?

We are now accustomed to the fact that flowers, grass, bushes, trees are everywhere in the village. However, this was not the case before. By the way, there are places where this is still practiced. Yes, even in our times, there may not be such a gorgeous splendor of nature. Of course, forests, meadows, rivers and other natural places still exist, but they are outside the villages and villages.

As for the southern latitudes, where everything is simply growing and fragrant with unprecedented speed, there is enough of any vegetation in the villages. But in the northern part, things are much worse with green landscapes!

At all times, people tried to feed their offspring. But now in stores you can buy whatever your heart desires. But before, almost all products were made by people for themselves. They tried to plant as many grains and vegetables as possible for the whole family to eat. Therefore, there was simply no energy, time, opportunity and place to be engaged in the improvement of the site!

Trees and bushes that were in the places of future buildings were naturally destroyed. They also served as material for the improvement. But the vegetation that was on the territory of the garden was also removed. Something was cut down for safety reasons, something so that there was no unnecessary shade, the grass was simply trampled down, because most of the day was spent on the site. In addition, everyone had livestock, so the grass was an excellent food for geese, sheep, cows, goats, etc.

When there were unfavorable periods, even straw from buildings went into feed for livestock and poultry, all only for the sake of preserving the life of domestic animals. Therefore, one should not be surprised that all vegetation was simply destroyed at the very root! Unfortunately, all this did not happen from a good life.

It is also worth noting that the buildings in the villages were located close to each other, as a result of which the vegetation between the houses was simply trampled by the inhabitants, because they went to each other in guests. That is why no plants are visible in old black-and-white photos.

Another reason why vegetation near houses was destroyed is that due to the large amount of grass and bushes, a lot of midges and other insects appeared. Therefore, the abundance of vegetation became a real problem for the inhabitants.

It's good that if people leave the area, the vegetation returns again, because nature still takes its toll! One has only to leave the buildings and they will all be overgrown with herbs and bushes, and behind them all kinds of living creatures will return to the streets of the villages. And you can see quite a lot of similar examples.
