What were the names of the kids in Ukrainian families last year? The most popular, unusual and exotic names for children in Ukraine according to statistics of 2021

Choosing a name for a child is not an easy task. Many parents throughout their pregnancy "dig" books, the Internet and conduct surveys among friends and acquaintances. Often the decisive factor is not only the meaning, sound, but also the popularity of the name: someone wants (or, on the contrary, does not want) to name the baby in accordance with fashion trends. To make it easier for you to navigate in the choice, we suggest studying the statistics of the last year. The Ministry of Justice has just prepared a rating of the most popular and unusual names by which the people of Kiev called their children last year.

The most popular names of the past year are time-tested classics. The girls in the capital were most often called Sophia, Maria and Zlata. Also in two years there will be a lot of Solomiy, Christine, Anastasiy and Margarita in kindergartens. Eva and Milan continue to be popular. Boy's names are also not too different from previous ratings: among the most common are Maxim, Ivan and Artem. Matvey and Mark, Lev and Timofey are still considered fashionable for boys, permanent Alexander and Dmitry are not giving up their positions.

At the same time, more and more moms and dads want to show originality and choose non-standard, unusual, and sometimes frankly strange names.. For example, last year the girls in Kiev were called Imi, Sovet, Eteri, Zakhra, Santa, Vedana, Aguvia, Rossanka, Arhelia, Melodison, Don Darin, Nakoletta. The names of ancient pagan goddesses and empresses also remained in vogue: very soon, Athena, Aurora, Illaria and Juno will sculpt in the sandboxes of the capital.

There will be no fewer originals among the boys: in a few years Balthazar, Gericius, Eleazar, Erofiy, Savvaty and Radvil will begin to dissect on scooters. By the way, boys have more than girls, there is a tendency towards names with a "touch" of antiquity. Parents are increasingly calling their sons Yarem, Arkhip, Sava, Aristarkh, Ustim, Elisey, Kuzma, Larion.

How justified is the parents' craving for originality and will it not bring a lot of problems to the child in the future? Psychologists disagree. On the one hand, Aguvia and Erofiy may feel uncomfortable at school: children with strange names are more often teased by classmates, and teachers can get confused and clumsy the name, calling the child to chalkboard. On the other hand, recently, there are more and more unusual names, so that almost every grade of elementary school now has its own Balthazar. As a last resort, the name (and even patronymic) can always be changed - according to Ukrainian law, this can be done upon obtaining a passport.
