We discussed ways to drink tablets and capsules. There they also talked about jelly and other thickeners that help swallow the pill.
In fact, special granular jellies have been invented for this. It is a flowing jelly with slimy granules in its structure that help to swallow something hard or nasty. The granules do not allow the medicine powder to settle for one spoonful and slip well into the throat.
Such things were invented for sealing bitter antibiotics for children. The Japanese love these jellies.
Then they began to do about the same for the elderly after a stroke, who have problems with swallowing.
Out of unhealthy interest, I decided to make such a thing at home. The trick is that this jelly is cooked in 5 minutes. It's fast.
Briefly speaking
Pour 4-6 milliliters (a teaspoon) of a 10% solution of calcium chloride into a glass of water, add there, stirring continuously, 3-4 grams (a heaped teaspoon) of sodium alginate. After 5 minutes, you will get a flowing granular jelly like in the photo. You can add flavoring there to taste. I added instant cocoa with sugar. It's probably better to add a fruit or berry flavor.
Sodium alginate is a popular cooking thickener like gelatin.
A solution of calcium chloride in ampoules is available in any pharmacy.
Calcium cleverly polymerizes alginate in the form of granules. This is by design.
I don't know why I mixed it, but it turned out exactly as it should be. Fluid and with slimy granules inside. Maybe someone will come in handy.
This, by the way, turned out to be the same alginate that is drunk to prevent heartburn. Disgusting thing for my taste.
Have you done any nasty nasty stuff in your kitchen?
