For some, color typing is science, for others it is pseudoscience. However, it is hard to deny that there are colors that do and do not suit us.
You can try on different hats in the store, taking pictures, and then flip through the photos. The color in the store should be very good.
You can stand at the windowsill during the day and try on (or attach) several colors of different temperature and purity. Take a closer look - with one color you are faded and paler, with the other - the skin seems to be lightened. Pay attention to the color of the eyes - what color did it play with, became brighter?
You can apply not only clothes, turn on your imagination by bringing a bright pink blanket from the nursery. An olive sheet. And the husband's wardrobe is generally the Holy Grail, there you can find so much (and pick up).
The Internet is replete with various tests, you may not need to believe them 100%, but you can understand some points.
The color of the headdress matches the color of the clothes
One of the most obvious options is to buy a hat that matches the color of your clothes. What are the nuances here?
If the color of the down jacket does not suit us very well, the hat can correct the situation well. In this case, we do not choose a hat of the same color. If your down jacket is in a bright acid color (and suddenly), it may be worth looking at more neutral hat colors so as not to overdo it.
Headgear color to match the color of the bag / shoe
Also an easy and understandable combination for many. For example, we have a brown coat, a white bag and a white beret. Or bright blue sneakers (or laces on them) and a blue hat.
The color can be exactly the same (which is more difficult and not always possible), or be approximate in shade. It is ideal to take the color temperature into account. In general, it is very useful to take it into account in the image. A warm color looks better with a warm color, and a cold color looks better with a cold one. Fanatical about the temperature is not always worth it!
Headdress color as an accent
It is cool to dilute monochrome images with something accent, this will give some special zest. For example, we have a black winter jacket, black trousers, boots and even a handbag. Which hat to take?

There is a monchromic combination of colors - we take different shades of the same color and combine them with each other. There is a combination of contrasting (complimentary) colors. We look at which color is opposite ours and choose it, getting a contrasting combination. There is a combination of analog colors - choose a color that is next to ours.
You can build a complex color image, where there will be 3-4 different self-sufficient colors, using a classic or contrasting triad, tetrad or square. You can't figure it out without a separate article, and I have it. Even two.
There are achromatic colors that go well with all others, with rare exceptions. It is white, gray, black.
