I have a mixed type of hair: there are thick, there are thin, and the latter is much larger. The structure is porous, plus discoloration affected the condition of the hair. The roots have no volume, it is all concentrated at the ends. My hair is tricky to style and I've tried many products to create the effect of a thick head of hair.
I tell you that it helps me to improve the situation and make my hairstyle more voluminous.
Shorter haircut
I started to grow my hair more than once, but in the end it hung like sticks, and I realized that in my case the length is not the best option.
A short cut makes hair lighter and looks fuller and healthier without overdried ends.
I know that it is not so easy for many to part with the length, so I advise you to pay attention to a multi-layered haircut - strands of different lengths will add density. It is better not to use heavy conditioners and not to pull the hair with an iron to a mirror-like smoothness, otherwise it will "stick" and even lose its natural volume.
Bulk staining and side parting
The magic lies in the fact that fashionable coloring techniques, for example, shatuzh, bronding, balayage or gradient degradation will help give a deep shade with multi-colored overflows, visually add density and change the image as a whole, making it softer and more romantic.
New for 2021 - tortoiseshell coloring. Due to the combination of several contrasting shades, the color is very rich and unusual. The effect of burnt strands adds naturalness and volume to the hairstyle.
And then - no magic - the parting, shifted slightly to the side, will raise the hair at the roots. In addition, there is an opinion that it is harmful to wear a parting always in one place: the hair gets used. It is enough to move it at least a centimeter from time to time.
You can also touch up the parting with non-glitter eyeshadow using a cosmetic brush. This trick works to create the illusion of thick hair at the roots.
Light curls instead of straight hair
Loose, slightly tousled hair will look fuller and fuller than perfectly smooth hair. I do not scrupulously curl every strand, but wind it from my face, count down 15 seconds, quickly go through the curling iron - and the careless light curls are ready. The main thing here is to choose the best curling iron for yourself.
I have three different ones, but now I mainly use Babyliss C452E, for my length, 32 mm is ideal.
I like that with this curling iron you get exactly a light wave, and not elastic heavy curls, as at the prom in the 2000s. And she has the right coating: quartz / ceramics, if you use thermal protection before styling, then such a curling iron practically does not spoil the hair.
The firm is not really important, the main thing is that there is a good coating and temperature control. I don't like curling my hair at high temperatures as it starts to scorch.
Dry shampoo
Previously, I did not understand these means, but now I don’t part with them. I use Batiste dry shampoo: I have it for light hair, and it's great! It is also able to provide excellent root volume.
I apply it to the roots and massage well, lift the hair at the roots with my fingers up, it becomes more pliable, textured and crumbly. If I am doing light curls, then I use shampoo on clean hair before curling.
And if you need to freshen your head on the second or third day after washing, then the product also does a good job. Several sprays, and after 5 minutes the hair is again clean, well-groomed and raised at the roots.
Of course, dry shampoo will not save very greasy, dirty hair, but it helps to prolong the freshness.
In the Baptiste line there are products of different directions, I want to buy dry shampoo for volume, however, I do not know if there will be a significant difference, or this is a publicity stunt. But it seems like this is an improved version and Batiste XXL Volume is aimed specifically at the root volume, it works both on short haircuts and on long hair.
All these methods and tools help me precisely with the root volume - with them it is much easier to improve my daily styling.
By the way, another interesting way that I have not yet had time to use is to swap the shampoo and conditioner, that is, to start washing the hair with the second product. So they will not be overdried by subsequent washing with shampoo and, accordingly, the conditioner will not weigh them down, so it will be possible to achieve the maximum volume when styling.
