Dumplings are one of the favorite dishes on our table. Homemade ones are just perfect, and if the hostess does not have time for modeling at all, now in any store you can buy dumplings for every taste and at any price. Each time they can be eaten with different additives, for example, with sour cream, with mayonnaise, with ketchup, with butter. They are also eaten with vinegar. But this option seems to be gradually disappearing into the Soviet past. So why was vinegar always served with dumplings in Soviet canteens?
How were dumplings eaten in the USSR?
Dumplings were the main dish of Siberians, and later gained popularity among the Uzbeks. And now it is difficult to understand where such a custom actually came from - to eat this dish with vinegar. I wish I knew the name of this amazing discoverer! But the fact that it was mega popular in the USSR is present. Because dumplings used to be at every turn, just like now pizza, rolls and fries.
So in every public catering, there were vessels with vinegar on the tables. This was the cheapest option! One bottle cost 24 kopecks. Of course, if you had money, you could order sour cream or Krasnodar sauce, but most often they still chose vinegar - cheap and tasty!
And how did you eat dumplings at home?
Of course, there was vinegar in every Soviet kitchen. They extinguished soda when preparing pies, pies, pancakes. It was added to salads. And, again, it was cheap. Only at home, more often something else was added to vinegar, for example, black ground pepper, mustard, butter.
