This year, the last day to apply for school admission is Monday, May 31
The first grade admissions process can rightfully be considered a school “admission campaign”. The same nerves of the parents, the same queues in educational institutions. Whether or not we succeed, whether they accept it or not - such questions are beginning to torment the mothers of future first-graders already now. In fact, there are clear legislative norms that govern this process. If you know them, then submitting documents to the school will be easy and without unnecessary stress.
When to apply for first grade
According to the Procedure for enrolling students (hereinafter referred to as the Procedure), approved by the Ministry of Education of Ukraine, documents must be submitted to the school before May 31. The procedure sets only the deadline for the acceptance of documents. When a school introductory campaign begins in each specific city, it is up to the local authorities to decide. This date can be found on the website of the local education department: according to the law, it must be officially announced a month in advance. As a rule, this happens from April 1.
In some schools, documents began to be accepted as early as March 1, but there is no need to run in front of the locomotive and stand in queues for many hours under the school administration. Even if you go to school in the last days of May, you will not be able to refuse to accept documents.

True, some believe that late submission of documents will affect the fact that the child enters D or D class. Allegedly, the classes are formed according to the order in which applications are submitted. In fact, each school has its own principle of forming classes. Now they are trying more and more to listen to their parents. In the application for enrollment in first grade, they even ask you to indicate your wishes - for example, teachersyou want to go to, or a child with whom you would like to be in the same class.
What school should parents of a future first grader go to?
In this matter, you need to rely on the law "On Education", which enshrines the right of every child to receive primary and basic education in the school that is “the most accessible and closest to the place of residence child ". Then we turn to the Procedure, where it is written that this is "guaranteed, but does not limit the child's right to choose another educational institution." In simple terms, each child can study at the school that is geographically closest to his home.

At the same time, it is important to understand that this Procedure applies only to general educational institutions, and does not regulate the work of specialized schools (art, sports, military, and so on). They work according to their own rules and may well refuse to accept documents on their own internal grounds.
What documents to submit to the school for admission
For a child to be admitted to school, one of the parents must bring an application for admission. An example of such a statement can be found on the website of the educational institution, sometimes it is hung on the doors of the school or can be given a sample directly at the time of submission of documents. The following papers are attached to the application:
- a photocopy of the passport or other document that proves the identity of the parent;
- a copy of the child's birth certificate;
- original or copy of a medical certificate in the form No. 086-1 / o;
- original or copy of a document that confirms the residence of the child or parents in the school's service area.
- two small photographs of a child.
If all documents are in order, the child will be enrolled in school on June 1 / istockphoto.com
Please note that the list does not include a word about registration. The document confirming the residence of the family may be ownership, an apartment rental agreement, or even an act signed by the head of the OSBB and neighbors. By the way, this document is submitted only if you are applying for priority (that is, guaranteed) enrollment in school. If the child goes to free places (which will remain after the enrollment of all high-priority students), there is no need to confirm his place of residence.
