For some reason, now many believe that in the USSR they produced only low-quality cheap products with the poorest design. Especially for such “connoisseurs” of the Soviet Union, I want to tell you about our brands, which were highly valued, and Europe and the USA really wanted to buy these things!
Surprisingly, something is still being released. These are brands with a long and popular history! The USSR is long gone, but they are.
Zenith camera
A very popular model from the Zenith series is Zenit-E. It has been manufactured at the Krasnogorsk Mechanical Plant since the 1950s. The Zenit-E model was produced from 65 to 88 years. In total, about 8 million devices were “created”. The demand was incredible, so at the beginning of the 80s in g. Vileika in Belarus also began to make such cameras, although their quality was slightly lower. The Zenith camera was very popular abroad. Particularly appreciated were Soviet optics with very high quality lenses, including the Helios-44-2 lens.
Commanding watch
Such watches were produced since 65 at the Chistopol watch factory Vostok. Then they were distributed exclusively to officers of the Soviet army, and they were not on sale. When at the end of the year there were surpluses in quantity, they were sent to Voentorg, where they were swept away just during the day, although they cost, as an average advance in the union, about 45 rubles. The watch was chic, with a heavy, masculine design in a military style, it had a night light, it could be submerged to a depth of five meters. Radium isotopes were used for illumination, and later it was replaced by a less dangerous one - tritium. They say that officers who have been abroad sold such watches to foreigners for a lot of money! In addition to Komandirskie watches, other USSR watches were also popular - Molniya, Raketa, Poljot. Foreigners liked them a little less, but they were also known.
SUV Niva
The Niva is considered the most successful car made in the USSR. The first SUV was produced in 1977 and almost 80% of the total production "went" abroad. Excellent cross-country ability, attractive appearance. Niva could go through mountains and huge snowdrifts, and also participated in races. Volga and Moskvich were also known abroad, but they were not in great demand.
Stolichnaya Vodka
This fortified beverage won the very best spirits show in 1958, and after that there was a demand for it. She was especially appreciated in Europe. And in 1971, in exchange for a license to distribute this vodka in America, the Americans agreed to build a Pepsi plant in Novorossiysk. Stolichnaya vodka in America has a short name Stoli.
Black caviar
Previously, caviar was much more affordable than it is now. Almost 90% of the black was mined in the Caspian Sea, and abroad it was considered a delicacy. Just like foie gras or truffles. In the USSR, caviar was sold at an inexpensive price, somewhere around 15-40 rubles. It was sold mainly in 0.5 kg cans. And already by the 80s, it was a scarce product in the USSR, and it could only be bought by pull. Travelers often took this caviar on trips, and there they sold or exchanged with foreigners for foreign clothes or equipment. Officially, the Soviet Union exported about 2,000 tons of black caviar per year. And now the global annual output is about 400 tons.
Here, and you say! And what other brands of the USSR can you say as very popular in those days?
