The fashion for plastic windows has long gone. At first, they, as an experiment, and for the promotion of brands, were put to people in apartments for free. Then they got a price from budget to more expensive, depending on the company. Well, now there are plastic windows in every home. But are they so perfect? I propose to identify their main disadvantages!

Disadvantages of plastic windows

Toxicity

The material from which plastic windows are made is quite toxic. More precisely, it contains many harmful additives, for example, plasticizers, fungicides, lead. So, if we talk about lead, then it, getting into the human body with water, food and through the air, begins to accumulate in the bones and the whole body, causing health problems. The elderly are especially sensitive to this. Now some companies produce lead-free insulating glass units, but we ourselves cannot determine that it is absent, because there are no markings on such products.

Poor ventilation

If you remember, with the onset of cold weather we had to plug up wooden frames with improvised means. So there was less blowing from the frames, and the room was, accordingly, warmer. Plastic windows solved our problem. It doesn't blow, it's warm, just gorgeous, to such an extent that ventilation becomes terrible in the apartment. And she is needed. Firstly, a lot of dust accumulates in a house with poor ventilation. Secondly, there is an accumulation of microbes, bacteria, mold grows! Thirdly, the windows fog up, condensation forms, and you have to wipe damp windows from moisture every day. Fourthly, carbon monoxide accumulates from the gas stove, and harmful formaldehydes evaporate from the furniture, which also remain in the apartment. And fans with air conditioning often do not cope with this problem, but only disperse everything around the house, making it even worse.

Fragility

Maybe I expressed myself not quite correctly, but now I will explain what the matter is. Plastic windows are afraid of mechanical damage, and even the manufacturers themselves say that plastic is difficult to restore and repair. Dents and scratches will remain on the frames forever.

Complexity of repair

It is very difficult to repair a plastic window, because it has a very complex structure. In addition, a lot depends on the workers who install the windows for you, if they make a mistake and mount something incorrectly, then the operation of the window will be problematic and subsequent repairs. Much also depends on the quality of materials and workmanship.

Large expansion coefficient

Plastic will expand in the hot season, and shrink in the cold. This can cause cracks in your windows. And also, due to frost, the window can completely break away from the foam.

Easy hack

The plastic window is very easy to break, this is me for those who live on the ground floors. A burglar will only need some sharp object, with which he can easily open even a super cool window outside.

By the way, in many European countries, plastic windows have long been banned. Played, so to speak, and that's enough. Now windows made of natural wood are in vogue.

I also recommend switching to wooden windows, or at least putting in the plastic valves for supply ventilation, many of the problems listed will go away immediately. When ordering plastic windows, be sure to ask the seller for certificates that will confirm the quality of the products. After all, plastic can have a different level of eco-hazard. I do not recommend saving on windows, it is better to buy high-quality and more expensive ones than the budget option, which will become unusable in a couple of years.
