Scientists at the University of Cincinnati (United States of America) have published the results of their research in the journal ACS Chemical Neuroscience on early symptoms of severe coronavirus.
As it turned out, the loss of smell is characteristic of patients in whose body the infection penetrated with the help of proteins that help to recognize smells. There is a direct relationship between the degree of manifestation of a symptom and form the course of the disease.Most often, it is this symptom that predicts the form in which COVID-19 will proceed. The more severe the loss of smell, the more severe the patient's fever, cough and shortness of breath.
