During a coronavirus pandemic, I especially do not want to let the cough take its course, so as not to get complications as a result.

By itself, a cough is a useful and necessary reflex, it removes phlegm. But if pus appears in the sputum, shortness of breath appears, pain in the chest area - these are already very dangerous symptoms.

Who is at risk for complications from cough and SARS?

  • children under three years old;
  • people with chronic diseases of the broncho-pulmonary or cardiovascular system;
  • people with diabetes mellitus;
  • everyone who has recently undergone surgery;
  • people with HIV or other immunodeficiency conditions.

How not to bring the course of ARVI with cough to complications?

1. Take medication strictly according to the instructions and in the correct dosage. And, of course, it is very desirable to do this also as prescribed by a doctor.

Even if you just drink cough syrup, you need to observe its dose. Drink less than you should - there will be no effect, and if more, side effects are possible.

2. Don't knock the temperature down to 38 degrees. When the temperature rises - this is a natural reaction of the body, it fights viruses like that. And up to 38 degrees, you need to allow him to do this, and not slow down the immune system with antipyretic drugs.

3. Be sure to bring down the temperature above 38.5. This is the opposite situation, when you cannot endure and wait. The increased temperature thickens the blood, changes its composition. As a result, the heart rhythm may be disturbed, the kidneys will be severely affected. And if you have concomitant diseases, then this can turn into big problems.

4. Do not take antibiotics "just in case." ARVI is not treated with antibiotics. The more you drink them unnecessarily, the less likely they are to help you when you do get a bacterial infection. Antibiotics should only be prescribed by a doctor.

5. Get plenty of rest and drink fluids. If you do not consider this a treatment, this is not a reason to suffer ARVI, especially if you are suffering from a cough, "on your feet." The more you rest, the sooner you will recover and the easier you will get over the illness.
