Detox is a buzzword by which most people mean something like a short, strict diet. But in reality, everything is different.

People who take on the "detox programs" found on the Internet usually expect to lose dramatic weight while also improving their well-being and skin condition.

However, doctors advise to be careful: detox is not carried out with the help of "cleansing" teas (they just give laxative or diuretic effect), and also does not imply that you will eat only one and that the same product.

In fact, detox is not needed for losing weight, but for the healing of certain organs. It helps to remove some of the harmful substances from the body, which is important for those who do not adhere to a healthy lifestyle all the time.

You need to detoxify no more than once every three months and if you feel obvious symptoms that it is time to: it is constant fatigue, lethargy, deterioration of the skin and hair. But before doing a detox, be sure to consult a doctor, especially if you have any medical conditions, including chronic ones.

Skin detox

The skin reflects all our bad habits and nutritional mistakes. To cleanse it, restore its natural color, narrow pores, you need not only cosmetics, but also a radical revision of the diet.

To remove toxins, your diet should be high in fiber: cabbage, root vegetables, fruits, berries.

To further "cleanse", you can lean on a salad of fresh grated cabbage, carrots and beets, and one day a week eat only healthy green smoothies made from vegetables and herbs.

Liver detox

Usually, it means improving the work of the biliary tract and the outflow of bile. For this, plant foods will be useful - baked vegetables, nuts, avocados, fresh spinach, asparagus, as well as products based on milk thistle, mint and licorice.

But you should not take the advertised hepatoprotectors - self-medication will not bring you good. They should be prescribed by a doctor and only after diagnosis.

Kidney detox

The kidneys suffer from an excess of salt, protein and smoked foods in the diet. It manifests itself in swelling of the face, limbs, bags under the eyes.

Accordingly, the main detox for the kidneys is clean water, a minimum of added salt in food (you can improve the taste of fresh dishes with seasonings). Also, for a while, it is worth replacing meat, poultry and fish with vegetable proteins, vegetables and fruits, low-fat fermented milk products.
