Dr. Komarovsky: What to do if a child swallows an object

Many children try to taste objects that are completely not intended for this.

Unfortunately, cases of swallowing such objects are not very rare. For help parents the famous Ukrainian doctor (pediatrician) and TV presenter Yevgeny Komarovsky came.

The child swallowed the inedible - what to do?

According to the doctor, the most important thing is not to panic.

If the swallowed object has passed the esophagus, then it has entered the stomach - the worst scenario is no longer possible. If the object could not pass the esophagus, the child begins to have serious symptoms, among them vomiting, coughing, pain while swallowing, drinking.

If a foreign body is in the stomach, you can safely expect it to appear in the diaper on the second or fourth day after swallowing. If the object is small and smooth, then you do not need to worry, and if it is large, uneven and valuable, you need to make sure that it has safely left the child's body.

When should you see a doctor?

It is necessary to deliver to the doctor a child whose object did not pass the esophagus, as well as a baby in whom a foreign body remains inside the body on the fourth day.
