Symptoms of roseola in children

Roseola in children is quite common, but it is rarely diagnosed. Why it happens?

Roseola is also called exanthema, three-day fever, pseudo-rubella. In general, this is an acute infectious disease, it is characterized by a three-day rise in temperature up to 38 degrees without other symptoms.

When the temperature drops, a pink-red rash suddenly appears on the baby's body and quickly disappears, which usually does not cause discomfort in the baby.

Doctors consider roseola harmless because it does not cause complications or deaths.

Most often, babies from 6 months to 3 years old are sick, and often in spring or early summer. Closer to 4 years of age, the child's immune system copes with the infection of pseudo-rubella - and the disease usually does not manifest itself.

The diagnosis is often complicated by the fact that the disease goes away before the child is shown to the doctor. Also, the rash can be mistaken for an allergic reaction typical of children.

How exactly the virus is transmitted is also not fully known. Presumably, it is passed from adult to child through saliva during kissing or through dishes. Airborne transmission is not excluded.

It is important to remember that the main difference between roesola is the absence of symptoms other than high fever for the first 3-5 days. If the child is lethargic and refuses to eat, this is a consequence of an increased temperature.

If the temperature does not exceed 38 degrees and is normally tolerated by the child, it is not recommended to knock it down. It is enough to give the child enough fluids and ensure peace of mind.

The rash also does not need to be specially treated with something - it goes away on its own in 4-7 days. But, of course, it is desirable in any case to show the baby to the doctor.
