Pets are good for the development of children. But how to adapt the dog itself to the baby?
The arrival of a newborn is definitely not a reason to send your pet to an orphanage.
1. Encourage good dog behavior
Pay attention to your pet when he is behaving well. For example, give him a treat if he is lying quietly and you are busy with your child. The dog will learn well what behavior it receives the reward for.
2. Let them get to know
Of course, the acquaintance of a dog and a baby should take place under the strict supervision of adults. But don't stop your pet from sniffing the newborn. Animals understand very well what a child is, and often show patience and care for him. Namely, through the smell, the dog receives all the information it needs about the "alien".
3. Walk together
When you go outside with a stroller, be sure to take your dog with you. She will be delighted with long walks in the fresh air. As a result, the pet will behave more calmly at home.
4. Make time for both
Show your pet that when the baby arrives, you are still ready to stroke him, throw a ball, etc. Only at the same time there will be a child somewhere nearby, who will very soon join these games. And you can, for example, pet the dog while feeding the baby.
5. Remember safety
Even if your dog seems to be the friendliest in the world, never leave him alone with your child. It is impossible to predict all cases and dangers. If the dog does not accept the child for a long time, you need to contact the dog handler for help.
