Designers from both companies are working together on themed LEGO® sets for the Super Mario video game series. New items will go on sale this year.
United by passion for games and innovation, the companies have tried to reimagine the LEGO constructor, bringing in it elements of the beloved video game.
The new LEGO® Super Mario ™ sets sit at the intersection of conventional LEGO® and video games. They include an interactive Mario figurine - the beloved plumber will be able to collect coins in game levels built from familiar LEGO® bricks. Thanks to the new game mechanics, kids will be able to take a fresh look at both the exciting world of Super Mario and the construction set, on which several generations have grown up.
The LEGO Group and Nintendo today shared the news with a short video.
The video hints at what to expect from the new LEGO® Super Mario ™ Sets Coming in this year: we see how an interactive figure is played, collecting coins in a level built of cubes LEGO®.
