Cancer is not a sentence yet. Myths and truths and breast cancer.
Let's see what myths exist about breast cancer and why they cannot be believed.
Myth 1. Breast cancer is always induration
The chest really needs to be felt for lumps. But cancer can manifest itself in a different way: redness, peeling, irritation, hardening of the skin or nipple, bumps, changes in shape, pain, nipple retraction, discharge from them (except milk).
Myth 2. Breast cancer is hereditary
Hereditary predisposition to oncological diseases takes place. But in the case of breast cancer, this is only 30% of cases. That is, the majority of women who were diagnosed with breast cancer did not have a hereditary predisposition.
Myth 3. If you are at risk, you can only hope and be examined
Every woman can take a step towards cancer and a step away from it. In addition to heredity and regular examinations, it is important here: rational nutrition (less animal proteins and more plant proteins), quitting smoking and alcohol, from food waste, regular physical activity, normalization of weight, work not in hazardous industries, if possible - feeding the child breasts.
Myth 4. Mammography irradiates - and eventually causes cancer
In fact, the radiation exposure during mammography is rather insignificant, therefore it is not dangerous and does not lead to cancer. At the same time, lack of examination is a big risk to miss cancer at an early stage and endanger life and health.
Myth 5. If you lead a healthy lifestyle, you will not get sick
In many ways, cancer is an evil lottery in which all of humanity participates without their consent. And, unfortunately, proper nutrition, sports and breastfeeding are not a panacea. No one and nothing can give you a 100% chance that you will not get breast cancer.
However, if you adhere to preventive recommendations, then the risks are significantly reduced.
Myth 6. Fibroadenoma is a precancerous condition
In fact, they are not connected and there is no point in removing any tiny fibroadenoma. It won't develop into cancer.
Myth 7. To detect cancer, it is enough to do an ultrasound
A very dangerous and common myth. The sensitivity of ultrasound is too low, it is impossible to detect cancer at an early stage, before the onset of obvious symptoms. That is why it is recommended that women undergo mammography.Myth 8. Breast cancer only affects women
In men, it is less common, but it still happens. Usually, this disease indicates a mutation of certain genes.
Myth 9. For breast cancer, the entire breast is removed
Now medicine allows you to remove only part of the breast, or generally only the lymph nodes. Sometimes it is necessary to remove the entire mammary gland - but such cases are becoming less and less.
Myth 10. Sunburn Triggers Breast Cancer
Excess UV light ages the skin and can cause cancer. There is no link between sunburn and breast cancer.
