How to wean a child from swearing

To begin with, it is worth learning that a child's knowledge of swear words is normal and cannot be avoided.

The reasons why children speak swear words differ depending on age. For example, from 2 to 5 years old, they basically do not understand why words can be bad and when they should not be used. At this age, babies imitate those around them, especially those who have authority in their eyes.

Therefore, it will be natural if the child repeats an obscene word after mom, dad or other close relatives. And then he will use it at his own discretion.

Children after 5 usually understand well that they are saying bad words. But in this way they try to attract the attention of their parents. Therefore, the elders should not swear, but think about why the baby goes to this, even knowing that he will be scolded, just to get a share of attention.

Up to 12-13 years old, children use a mat for self-affirmation. It seems to them that in this way they look more mature and bolder.

1. From the moment the baby is born, obscene expressions should not sound in the house. A child inherits a lot from his parents, the "street" is not always to blame.

2. Calmly inform the child that the mat has no place in your home. This should be supported by an example that none of the adults express themselves.

3. If the child is small and for the first time said a bad word, it is better not to pay attention at all. So it is more likely that he will forget it or will not see the point in repeating it.

4. Do not “showdown” with your child when you are emotionally stressed. Only discuss his behavior in a calm state. If a child swore in front of strangers - it's okay, no matter what they think.

5. Teach your child to express emotions in a different way. Basically, both adults and children use mate to express strong emotions in short. Teach your child that emotions can be expressed in words that are less offensive to others.

6. Analyze if the child has the opportunity to stand out and prove himself in a way other than the mat. Often the fact that the child is limited in other spheres of manifestation leads to the use of obscene language, he lacks freedom.

7. Instill a love of reading. Without your own example, this is impossible, of course. The more the child reads works written in literary language, the more he will move away from using the site in every conversation.

8. Don't say the mat should only be used by adults. So the child will try to "grow up" as soon as possible, and vice versa will swear to feel more mature.

9. Do not prohibit categorically and strictly. Let the child know that the use of swear words and the reputation that has developed in this regard is his responsibility, not your mistake. The stricter the prohibition, the greater the desire to violate it.
