They extracted it from the saffron flower and mixed it with rice flour.
It wasn't until the 20th century that shadows came back into women's cosmetic bags in the United States. An important role in this was played by Max Factor, a make-up artist who developed cosmetics for Hollywood film stars. In the 30s, he developed henna-based eye makeup.
